You can’t design (properly) without content.
Recently I was chatting with someone about the process of designing website pages for clients using placeholder content, and how much of a nightmare it can be, LOL. If you’re a designer, you’ll know this struggle too.
In the past I used to not worry a whole lot about having final content before I started designing, but that didn’t last very long because it meant so much time was wasted re-doing sections and content because what I’d used as a placeholder was totally different to the actual content… 🤦♀️
You can totally nail down the design direction, like fonts and colours and image style and all of that shit without the content, but when it comes to creating the actual work, you kinda need it, to be able to design things properly.
If you’re thinking of hiring a designer, OR you’re just gonna DIY some fun shit for your business, like a website page, or some social media graphics — it’s gonna make everything wayyy easier if you have your CONTENT (your words + any images) pretty much ready to go, before you start designing. It’s also worth making notes of what the most important pieces of info are, and what any specific goals might be for that page/piece of content… Cuz that should most def be informing how you design.
You can’t have a solid piece of informational design for your biz (like a website page, or a social media graphic announcing a promo, etc) without a goal or some form hierarchy — cuz then its just a shit show of content with no clear path or point to it…
Content first. Then Design.
